Menopause symptoms: early indications that you are going through midlife transition can help you prepare for it. This is important for many reasons, but primarily because when hormone levels drop, your body is more susceptible to disease and the other unsettling effect of growing older.

In an article posted on, Moira de Swardt has this to say about menopause symptoms. Early signs that she was going through the change were chronicled:

I have started to sprout facial hair which, although disgusting in its own right, is probably the least embarrassing and uncomfortable of the signs and symptoms of menopause to admit to on an open forum where people I know socially browse the writings.

The list of signs and symptoms of menopause are “hot flushes, body temperature disturbances, night sweats, breast swelling and tenderness, weight gain, heavy menstrual periods, unusually bad menstrual cramps, irregular periods, erratic bleeding and spotting, loss of libido, vaginal dryness, itchiness around the vaginal area, painful intercourse, changes in urinary function, greater urgency in the need to urinate, leaking, urinary infections, unusual skin sensations, skin that is highly sensitive, dry skin, dry eyes, heart palpitations, headaches and migraines, dizzy spells, sudden bouts of nausea and faintness, low-grade fatigue, mood swings, negative feelings, weepiness, generalised anxiety, increased anger, impatience, short temper or grumpiness, less tolerance of things that irritate you, forgetfulness, confusion, depression, feelings of worthlessness and hopelessness, panic attacks, feeling very tense, reluctance to be too loose to someone, unwarranted anger at invasion of space, jumpiness, restlessness, imsomnia, strange dreams and nightmares, altered sleeping patterns, disturbed sleep, difficulty in falling asleep, waking earlier than usual, aching ankles, knees, wrists and shoulders, joint pain, bleeding gums, hairs suddenly appearing on chin, long, silky facial hairs, thinning hair, more frequent flatulence, wind pains and indigestion and bloating”. Menopause symptoms: early indications that you are going through the change can be relieved somewhat by meditation, yoga and a good diet.

Phew! That’s a big list of menopause symptoms & early warning signs that the change of life is at hand.

So what should you do? Use the symptoms as a red flag to take stock of your life. Although we are working on developing a comprehensive course that will help you boost your health, find your authentic self and clearly define your direction throughout the second phase of life, for now, take a look at how you care for yourself to see if there are any areas in which you are lacking.

Are you getting enough sleep? You should be getting at least 7 hours per night. Are you eating lots of fresh vegetables, lean protein and healthy oils? If your diet still contains a lot of junk food, you might want to rethink this because now, more than ever, you need healthy-giving vitamins and minerals from nutrient-dense food. Are you participating in regular exercise? If not, find something you enjoy, something easy to begin at home, like yoga, for instance.
