Help with Menopause Symptoms

by Laura Ramirez on July 9, 2011

Need help with menopause symptoms? First let’s talk about what causes them: the decline of estrogen. For some women, this begins in their thirties which is why it is more difficult to conceive a child as you get older. As estrogen declines, women enter peri menopause and may start experiencing symptoms like hot flashes, mood swings, insomnia, depression, anxiety, decreased sex drive and vaginal irritation. Not a pleasant mix of symptoms. Instead of feeling like a woman who is bursting with femininity, sexual power, energy and creativity, some women feel like they are all withering and dying. Don’t worry because there are treatments for these symptoms that are quite effective and that don’t have the risks associated with the synthetic hormone replacement products that your mother took.

Watch the video below and then read on for a few good recommendations for help with menopause symptoms.

Since most of the menopausal symptoms listed above are caused by decreasing estrogen (except lowered libido which is caused by declining testosterone), some women in peri menopause opt to take a low-dose estrogen birth control pill to minimize the symptoms. If you can tolerate The Pill (which I never could), this may be a good temporary measure for you.

For those who opt for the natural way (which is my preference), I take a menopause supplement that has been a great help with menopause symptoms. It contains dong quai and black cohosh and reduces all the common menopausal symptoms listed at the beginning of this article.

If this option doesn’t provide the relief that you seek, you may want to talk to your doctor about bioidentical hormone replacement in the form of a patch or pellets. It is best not to use estrogen lotions, gels or creams because if you have men or boys at home, you won’t want to be exposing them to estrogen that they don’t need.
